Newborn & Family Photographer
“Do you take pictures of newborns and families, preferably in our family home?”
This question is the most asked client questions. The answer is yes, however if this is your first baby you may not be familiar with newborn sessions. There is a lot to consider – most of all timing and equipment needed – so please read on to get a better understanding of what I offer. Each session represents a different style and different preparation. I do offer Lifestyle Newborn’s Session in your home, however for Posed Sessions and Limited Wrapped Sessions I would highly recommend to travel to my In-home Studio.

When should I book my newborn session?
Book your newborn session during your last semester. I only take limited sessions each week. Pictures are best taken when baby is 9 -15 days old. After this tiny window of opportunity closes, newborns become more wakeful, less able to curl and stay asleep, and they often have more issues with their skin. Newborns tend to stay more asleep within the first 2 weeks, and because of this we are able to gently move your little one into sweet poses. After a couple of weeks, this is not as easy to do.
Please read my blog “When is the best time to take newborn pictures”?
What is a “Posed Newborn Session”?
Posed newborn photography sessions takes place in my In-Home Studio within the first 5-14 days of life and features the traditional curled up, sleepy shots of baby. The photographer controls lighting, backdrop and props.
What is a “Lifestyle Newborn Session”?
At the other end of the spectrum you have lifestyle photography. Lifestyle newborn photography takes place at your home, and I will usually spend the majority of the shoot within their new surroundings.
What to expect during a lifestyle session in your home
How long does a Newborn Session last?
Well, it depends on the type of Newborn Session.
- Limited Wrapped Session is likely the shortest session around 60-90 min. The better baby sleeps, the shorter the session.
- Newborn Session in my in-home studio are longer, between 2-3 hours, depending on if if parents and sibling are included in the session and if baby was awake prior to the session. If baby wakes up during the session and needs to be fed and rocked backed to sleep. it usually adds another 45 min to the session time.
- Lifestyle Newborn Sessions in the clients home are approximately 50 min of shooting time.
Should I buy a special outfit for my baby for the session?
Most newborn images are done without clothing, and I have props and wraps to use, so you don’t have to worry about purchasing anything! The baby wraps and props are included in all the packages free of charge.
If you have decided for a Lifestyle Newborn Session at your home, you can purchase the outfits for your baby. I will bring a few outfits to choose from as well.
What happens after the session?
After each session, I go through the photos and narrow down the gallery to the best pictures. You just need to wait about 1-2 week for your gallery to get ready for viewing. Your online viewing gallery you get a chance to see all the digital images.
In most cases, the gallery comes with more than 50 images. That’s where you make your favourite selection and choose the ones you like the best as part of your package. I don’t give out any raw images. You can buy more images
How long do I need for the final images?
Once I receive the favourite selection the order goes on the editing lineup and waits for its turn for the professional retouching. The total turnaround is about 2-3 weeks depending on how busy the line is. The faster you submit your selection, the sooner the project goes on the line.
Are we able to get/purchase more photos?
You will get the exact same number of pictures as purchased in the package you book. If you like more photos you have the option to purchase extra images a la carte. I don’t give away raw images and they are all copyright protected.
